Tanghulu(sugar-coated haws on a stick)is a traditional Chinese snack of Crataegus pinnatifida coated in harden syrup. It tastes sweet, sour and refreshing. Round red haws, as their ball shapes symbolize completeness, are pierced and connected on a stick, forming the shape of gourd fruit with the pronunciation hulu in Chinese meaning happiness. In the past, it only uses haws as ingredient. Nowadays, however,it includes many new ingredients: fruits like strawberry,orange,grape and kiwi fruit; even vegetables like Chinese yam and cherry tomato.
